Marvel MMO Back On The Drawing Board

Once upon a time, a little company called Marvel announced they were making a Massively Multiplayer Online game featuring their suite of very popular comic book characters. Nerds, geeks and assorted ginger kids the world over cried out hallellujah! For all their prayers had been answered. But then the tears.

Shelving, cancellation and before you knew it we were wailing and throwing ourselves upon the cold corpse of a game that never even existed off paper.

Then today something called a Rob Hutter CEO Gazillion Entertainment said he was making a Marvel MMO for the PC and 'some consoles'. The game will apparently feature Iron Man, Hulk, Wolverine, Thor, Fantastic Four, and Captain America to name a few. Fingers and toes both crossed that:

1. This game actually gets made.

2. You get to play as Marvel characters and not create your own embarrassing character to interact.

Gazillion Entertainment have assembled developers with previouse experience on World of Warcraft, Everquest and Age of Conan to enter the MMO market with a bang and hopefully last longer than every other MMO other than Warcraft. Marvel represents just one MMO license of three that Gazillion Entertainment are currently working on, the others include Lego and a mysterious secret project, hopefully Power Rangers.

It's curious to speculate wildly (my favourite type) as to whether this will be an actual rounded and balanced MMO or just an elaborate marketing extension for the Marvel brand as Thor, Iron Man 2, Captain America and the Avengers roll of the movie production line over the next two years. Besides, all the really cool kids are reading The Umbrella Academy now anyway. Grant Morrison said so and he's a warlock, he knows... things.
