Upcoming PS3 exclusive Infamous is getting a little bit of an undeserved lukewarm response from the general public. The game combines the best elements of Assassin's Creed and Crackdown's free running and city exploring and throws in a bunch of cool electricity based super powers. The latest reveal is that your powers can lead you down two paths, one light and happy with butterflies the other dark and scary and very emo. Possibly with lots of Nine Inch Nails music and some patricide.

Reminds me of a movie I saw once.

There was this Luke Skywalker dude and he had to choose between good and evil and weigh up the powers of both. To be honest I can't remember what happened next, I think i fell asleep and when I woke up squealing teddy bears were getting killed so I went back to sleep. Someone said there was a bunch of sequels, but that they were rubbish.

Anyway, what were we talking about? Oh right, Infamous, branching story line and so on. It's not going to come across as a terribly original idea to anyone who has played Xbox exclusive Fable or Fable 2 but the evil and good paths is a so rarely used feature that it could definitely add some longevity to the Infamous campaign. Especially as the developers have even stated that it's 'not a long game'.

In addition to dramatically changing your appearance (in again a very Fable-esque manner) the nature of your super powers changes. For one, thing your lightening powers turn red instead of blue. The destructive powers you can wield, such as explosive bolts of energy or area wide shockwaves are more damaging than the more benign elements of your power such as healing injured civilians with a quick jolt or moving objects. So it's quite possible choosing the light side or the dark side (sounds familiar actually) can influence the way you play the game.

The system is called your Karma and will even influence the city around you with good choices and actions improving the overall living conditions of the populace and evil choices causing the city to take on a darker, meaner tone and even start to crumble. Seems you may have a greater link to the city around you than has been hinted at. Personally, the steady leak of information and the excellent screenshots above have me pretty excited for this game. I can see the PS3's hardware being put to good use realising a large living city to play super hero in.

Expect to see Infamous on shelves come June.
