The sequel to one of my favourite games this generation, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, is shaping up to be one of the best games of 2009 by the looks of things. Especially since last night Sony announced that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is getting competitive online Multiplayer and what seems to be a popular trend at the moment, online co-op.

The Multiplayer modes will be a classic 5 v 5 Team Death Match and a Capture the Flag style mode called Plunder. One side will take control of Drake, Chloe, Sully and other "Heroes" from the game while the other will be the "Villains" The maps and game play will be based off the single player campaign, with players being able to scale walls, use cover, hang from signs (oh that looks so cool) and still has many of the platform elements the first game was famous for. In Plunger the two teams will try to steal the others treasure (generally a golden idol) and return it to their base. The difficulty is when a player has the idol they walk slowly and can only fire with a pistol.

Online co-op will consist of three players and will be a slightly variation on the single player campaign, offering a different way to play the game. Co-op will not be just limited to gun play, there are specific platforming sections that two or three players will need to work together to complete. A lot of information about this mode hasn't been given out yet but it sounds fantastic.

Tying the online modes to the single player game will be an XP/Currency ranking, more information about that hasn't become available. Naughty dog has taken a leaf out of Infinity Ward's book with its "Boosts" system; think Call of Duty 4's perks system. 2 Boost slots are able to be used for things such as extra ammo, the ability to "sense" players through walls or be able to fire from the hip more accurately.

I would just like to also touch on the graphics of the game from the screenshots and the trailer that has been released. The animations look fluid, the textures are sharp and the world is supremely detailed. Overall this game could set a new standard for how graphics should be done in a game.

A beta for the game will be held on June 3rd, to get a beta code you need to buy inFamous, a game I already have on my Antisipatom.... (Ok I don't know how to spell it but you know what I mean). It hasn't been announced if this is world wide or America only, so let's just cross our fingers and hope we get included.

But what is the best part about it? A real online system where follwong friends is said to be easy is actually implemented into this game. All before launch! Sorry but i have been annoyed by this in too many games on the PS3 of late. Hopefully its all going to be change after this game.

If you can't tell, I'm excited about this game, it looks absolutely amazing! It wouldn't have bothered me if there was no online play or co-op; I was planning to buy this game the day it came out anyway. For them to have put such a good looking multiplayer in the game as well is just a bonus. Hurry up and release already!
