Capcom, the millionaire developers behind Street Fighter and Resident Evil, held their annual show Captivate 09 just last week. Unfortunately I couldn’t go, the That Aussie Game Site Gulf Stream Jet having been sent out for a new paint job.

But here’s everything you needed and wanted to know about Dead Rising 2 in dot point format for easy eye ball consumption.

Before I get into the info you should know that all you really need to do is watch this video here.

Was that not the best game trailer you've seen all year? Didn't it make you just want to run down to the local game pawn shop and throw money at the merchant screaming 'Pre order! Pre order!'. Well, just in case you're adverse to watching videos, here's the dot points.

  • In the game Frank West is absent, hero duties are taken over by Chuck Greene. A motocross racer trapped in a city full of zombies who, it's hinted, may be trying to protect his child who is located somewhere in the zombiepocalpyse.
  • Rather than a simple mall setting of the first game the terrible infection has spread to major cities around the US. Dead Rising 2 takes place in a small casino town called Fortune City .
  • Just in case the weapons in the last game weren't weird enough, Dead Rising 2 includes a Moose head that you wear, then run with your head down at the zombies, skewering them on your atlers.
  • It looks like you might be able to combine weapons and equipment in the game. In the trailer Chuck is seen wielding a staff with a chainsaw lashed to each end. There's also a moment where he rides into a zombie horde with two chainsaws strapped to either side of a dirt bike. It should be noted that when I saw this I fainted, purely over whelmed with geek joy.
  • Dead Rising 2 is run on a completely new engine from the last game and can support up to around 7000 zombies on screen at once. That's a lot more than the original Dead Rising and its impressive mobs of shambling shoppers that maxed out at about 500.
  • Vehicles will be a much bigger part of the game with Chuck needing to use motor transport to get around Fortune City in a hurry.
  • There hasn't been any mention of rescuing and escorting survivors, a crucial part of the original game. That's of some concern, but Capcom promises to reveal more intricate details of the game in the coming weeks.
  • No camera to take candid snaps. :-(
  • Dead Rising 2 probably won't arrive until 2010
  • But when it does it will most likely have some form of multiplayer. :-)

So Dead Rising 2 is a game it's going to be hard not to play. I suppose there's always the outside chance everyone could be sick of zombies by 2010. Or even worse (better?), the zombiepocalypse actually happens as we always new it would and we finally get to put all out video game training to good use. Just to be on the safe side I'm of to the garage to gaffa tape my whipper snipper to my push bike.
