Ghostbusters Exclusive to Sony Systems

ghostbusters

Update: It seems like its a timed exclusive after all, from Atari:

“The release of the Xbox 360, PC, Wii and Nintendo DS versions of Ghostbusters: The Video Game will launch across Europe and PAL regions in Spring 2009. More information regarding the release of Ghostbusters: The Video Game for Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, Wii and PC will be made available in due course by Atari Inc.”

Zuh wuuuuuh? File this under B for Bizarre turn of events. Sony has sent rolls of hundred dollar bills carried by scantily clad women (unconfirmed) round to Atari to cover the publishing duties for Ghostbusters in PAL regions. As in us.

Naturally this means that we won't be getting Ghostbusters for the Xbox 360, Wii or the DS.

That's not pie in the sky thinking either (what does that even mean? pie in the sky?), Sony have confirmed that Ghostbusters will only be available on the PS3, PS2 and PSP in Australia. Not to point fingers, but isn't this the same Sony that said exclusives were like totally dumb and they like totally didn't care about them? Well this is kind of a round about way of getting an exclusive. But it's an exclusive for the Playstation none the less.

Business wise I can't hold it against them and its a bit late in the game to be shocked by console developers saying one thing and then doing another. But Atari must be a little bit concerned, or perhaps pissed is a better word, that half their market has been cut out by their choice of distributor. particularly the loss of Xbox Live for the much talked about coop mode.

The US will still get it across all six platforms so its possible that it may appear on all the consoles at some later date. But don't expect a release as long as Sony are the PAL distributor. Of course this could just be one of these things that everyone goes crazy about and then gets reversed immediately. We'll wait and see.

In the mean time share your thoughs here at the forum.
