Craig over at All Age Gaming takes a look at on of the most pertinent points in the raging console wars: Sony's free online service versus Microsoft's $90 a year subscription to Xbox Live.

You might not know this, but my day job is in marketing and advertising and one of the first things you learn when you get into marketing is that there is such a thing as pricing yourself under the market. The subconscious mind tends to recognise higher value when really there isn't. For example, if something costs $90 per year and a competitor is giving the same thing away for free, a rational human being's brain will subconsciously associate a higher value with the item that costs, despite the fantastic deal! It's my opinion that Sony have priced themselves under the market.
