You know you’re missing out right now don’t you? Right this second, you are missing out. ‘But how’, I hear you wail, mewling like kittens in a tea chest washed out to sea, ‘how are we missing out?’. Well I’ll tell you. You are missing out because right now you could be playing the demo for Torchlight instead of me telling you to play it. If you haven’t all ready, and you should have, for shame, hang your head, you can download it from Steam, play it, love it, then purchase the whole game for a meager $20.

‘But we don’t know what Torchlight even is’, you wail again. Well then, come sit on my lap and I will tell you of Torchlight, and don’t worry about that lump, it’s just my keys.

Torchlight is a top down third person RPG game, featuring gorgeous cartoon like visuals and a steampunk fantasy world. It’s made by ex Blizzard employees who previously worked on Diablo and Diablo II. It has a very similar, dungeon crawling, loot hording feel but overall feels a lot more fun than Diablo ever did.

After choosing one of three heroes the Destroyer (melee fighter), Alchemist (magic summoner) or Vanquisher (ranged fighter) and picking a pet to help you, it’s time to journey into the dungeons and mines below the city of Torchlight.

The game features procedurally generated dungeons providing a unqiue experience on each play. The randomised dungeon might contain any combination of loot, monsters and scripted events that exist in the game.

It’s a small game compared to the other big holiday releases. Just a little PC game released over Steam (Mac OS X version coming soon) but its combination of beautiful design audio and gameplay clearly paints Torchlight as a major underground hit in the making. The developers are all ready talking about the MMO that Torchlight will evolve into over the next 18 months. Currently it’s only a single player game.

If you live for games you will love Torchlight and if you weren't sold all ready check out the terrific trailer below.
