It's completely understandable that you're nervous about the upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. For one thing it's produced by Jerry Bruckheimer who is regarded as making films that are loud and boisterous but pretty hollow. Then again everyone turned their nose at a movie based on a theme park ride, but old Brucky turned Pirates of the Carribean (you might have heard of it) into several billion dollars of profit and years of rubbish impersonations of Johnny Depp at Halloween parties. Then there's quiet director Mike Newell best known for Four Weddings and Funeral, but he did also direct Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire which had dragon fighting and that bloke from Twilight getting killed, which was well worth the price of a movie ticket. There's also Jake Gyllenhal... well I can't say a bad word about Jake, he's awesome, even though my wife says he looks way hotter than me in the trailer. I can forgive him that.
A trailer? Oh sorry, I was getting to that, there's a trailer, click through to see it.
Admit it, that was much cooler looking than you expected wasn't it? It was a helluva(tm) lot cooler than I expected it to be. Very impressive to see Mr. Gyllenhal, or his stunt double, actually doing the wall running and double jumping fans of the series will be familiar with. Did you also notice the 'Dark Prince' reference when he was using the dagger? Very nifty.
This could be the best thing that ever happened to games since Olga Kurylenko took her top off in Hitman. I'm not about to say this is the first good film based on a game ever made (although it doesn't have much competition) but so far its the best trailer for a movie based on a game I've ever seen.
So when does it come out? Well I've dropped a subtle hint below.
