Smell that? I love that smell, smells like... victory. I'm sure that Apocalypse Now quote was thrown around the office at Rebellion at least once at the news the OFLC has unanimously decided to award Aliens Versus Predator an MA 15+ rating in Australia. Aliens Versus Predator will meet its release date of February 18 next year on PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 with all its goretastic content intact (as evidenced above). While this is good news I can't help but have questions.
Such as, how can this be a Refused Classification one day of the week and then a unanimous approval the next? Is the above image really less controversial than the content of Left 4 Dead 2 considering it's an act of violence against a real human as opposed to a human like zombie type character? Was the appeal review handled by the same staff that determined the initial RC?
I would love, absolutely love, for the curtain to be pulled back and for us to get a very clear picture of how these decisions are made. I'm talking about minutes of review sessions, audio files of discussions, guidelines that are adhered to. Given that the OFLC's decisions and actions affect all Australians and aren't a matter of national security it stands to reason their process should be completely transparent to the public. |
