Quantum Theory Looks More Gears Than Gears

When a game is mega successful and sells several small Hawaiian islands worth of millions of dollars you can expect the odd imitator. Gears of War hasn't quite had as many imitators as I would have expected it to have so far but one look at the latest trailer for Quantum Theory and it's not hard to see where they drew their inspiration from.

Click through for the trailer and a bunch of new screenshots of the upcoming PS3 exclusive which should be appearing in March.

Yeah, it could easily be a tech demo for Gears of War 3 and early hands on of the game from TGS hinted at the same thing. In fact its so blatant a rip off I wonder if Epic are considering unleashing M$'s legal drones. This demo has actually made me a little bummed for the game, after the last trailer I was looking forward to it, the last trailer looked so slick, this one looks a bit rough, particularly when the bad guys fall to the ground and turn into a puff of gibs that seem to disappear into thin air.

The trailer gets interesting when the sword wielding girl gets involved and its not quite clear if she's a playable character or a weapon in the game. She seems more like Elika in the Prince of Persia than Dom in Gears in the role she plays.

Well the jury is still out on Quantum Theory in my opinion, it could be a surprising dark horse among the big name in Q1 releases but at this stage it could go either way.

See? Green! Gears of War didn't have any green in it any where, they're completely different
