In what would have been another great announcement for an EA E3 presentation Insomniac have announced that their newest IP will be a multiplatform game published by EA as part of their “EA Partners” program. Before Sony fans explode into a fit of rage this is only for their new IP, Ratchet and Resistance are still exclusive Sony franchises.

No information on the title has been given, not even a general date. It also won’t be making a debut at E3 if Insomniac’s president Ted Price can be believed. What would make sense if the game is announced early next year and releases later in the year. If the Resistance 3 announcement is made at E3 for a holiday release we can count on the new IP next year.

For the 360 only owners out there, you should know that this can only be a good thing for you since Insomniac is one of the most underrated developers out there in terms of games sold. Resistance 2 may have dropped the ball slightly but Resistance: Fall of Man was the best of the PS3 launch titles, and the Ratchet and Clank games have all been some of the best platformers this generation and of all time.

The reason for the split from Sony exclusivity after 16 years is one of growth; "We never wanted to limit ourselves," Price said. "People are inspired here by having the opportunity to try new things. (Playstation 3 shooter) Resistance was a chance to branch out and we will continue to look for those opportunities."

Who can blame them? When they create a game as great as Ratchet and Clank a Crack in Time and not sell 2-3 million units like is should have, exclusivity is not for them. So by doubling their potential market they have made what seems to be a solid business decision.
