It's been a while since I had an angry rant but I'm a bit pissed about this so bare with me and prepare to disagree. I was a bit late to the party but when I finally played inFamous I really loved it; especially the crazy plot and modern comic book dynamic to the designs. The entire thing was like the perfect interactive comic book, you could almost hear Stan Lee reading the intro, and I loved it for that reason.
But infamous 2 is stressing me out due its drastic and baffling redesign of its lead character.
It seems like Sucker Punch have fallen under the spell of the dreaded Drake Syndrome that's spread through the game developer community in recent years.
Look at every western game made for the last five years and you'll notice a surprising number of game characters look like Nathan Drake, all of them sporting a Han Solo-ish revision, rogueish good look quality, that's really starting to blur them all into one.
The original Cole character was unique and interesting. Angry, gravely voiced (they've also hired a new voice actor incidentally) and follicle challenged. He was easily identifiable with the chrome dome and the practical biker clothes and for that reason memorable. In case you don’t recall he kind of looked like this.

Basically he was Jason Statham if Jason Statham played Spiderman, and yes that would be goddamned awesome
Now we’ve got this character who looks like he could be Nathan Drake Jr. or a goddamn Abercrombie and Fitch model, or a boy band member (possibly the brooding misunderstood one).

Somehow he transformed into a frat boy model
What the frak? I should elaborate on what the bottom half of the photo looks like, he has a few bandages on his hand. Oooh edgy, he totally cut himself on a beer bottle at the last kegger he went to at delta kappa house. He even looks younger than the original character, how the hell can he be younger than the original character
? Not to spoil the original game but the character of Cole was put through the damn ringer in the last game. Beaten up in every way shape and form and he should absolutely not look like he uses an exfoliate scrub every morning before he climbs drain pipes and leaps rooftops.
In summary, old Cole looked like a hard man, like someone who spends his day time fighting bad guys and getting the poo kicked out of him by telekinetic nut cases, he looked hard. New Cole looks soft, not to mention derivative. He looks like that guy on that show Las Vegas nobody knows the name of, you know the guy? He's kind of a composite of attractive but ultimately meaningless male features and you're wife says, "he's kind of attractive", as she turns over to Masterbating Chefs.
Look I get why they're doing this, market testing, appeal to a wider audience, greater player connectivity across gender derivative play testers, blah blah blah. But we know Cole, we've followed Cole's story, and tight shirt with the meaningless douche tattoos there, he does not look like the Cole I remember.
Thoughts? Objections?
