People, being the geek that I am I naturally love table top gaming, but spending my formative years overdoing the caffeine and nicotine (which I've now quit, filthy habit) means the fine motor skills required to paint eyes on tiny miniature figures are well beyond the ability of my metacarpals and phalanges. Luckily the medium of games have allowed me to order Space Marines across war torn alien worlds in games such as Dawn of War and its three increasingly mind meltingly cool expansions.
I've been keeping a close eye on the third person action title Space Marine AND Dark Millennium, the MMO set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. THQ have been kind enough to reward my keen gaze with some new details. Read on to learn more, so that you may protect the imperium in these times of chaos, all hail the Golden Throne!
First Space Marine.
Well other than the new screenshots below there isn't actually a lot to tell about this game that we don't know. It's a third person shooter featuring the genetically and cyberneticaly augmented soldiers of the Imperium, the original power armoured super soldiers, who I find interesting not just because they're heavily armed and armoured, but that they're fanatical and psychopathic zealots who worship their half dead ruler as a god and have unusual and anachronistic attitudes to battle.
Unfortunately the screen shots only feature orks and I'm more than a little keen to see what other alien races appear in the full game. If it's just the Ork's, one of the least interesting of the Warhammer 40,000 character races, I'll be pretty bummed out.
Future prototype commercial aircraft being considered by Jetstar
Even thirty eight thousand years in the future, orks still favour the faithful axe
Secondly we've got Dark Millenium, the Warhammer 40,000 universes go at an MMO.
It's looking distinctly MMO like and promises lots of shooting, strafing, taking cover and blowing stuff up. The focus will be on war, combat and dismemberment. None of your crafting and fannying around with herbs and trash items. The games about war, the universe is about war, expect lots of war. If you like peace this is the wrong game for you, maybe try Farmville, or Club Penguin. Apparently all the popular Warhammer 40k races will be represented and there will be lots of choice.
No info on any of the important details yet, such as payment options or system specs required but that information should be coming in the months ahead.
Apparently you will be able to drive many of the iconic vehicles in the game including the giant enemy squishing Titans like the one pictured
Space Marines are meant to be really big guys, clearly this screenshot doesn't serve well perspective wise
