It's no secret that Medal of Honor stirred some people up with the supposed offence apparently taken by those in the military about "using the deaths of patriots as entertainment". It's reasonably obvious where the largest voice is coming from, so is it any surprise none of the big gaming review websites seem to be giving this a fair go?. I just watched IGN's video review, and the ONLY good things they had to say were about the sound and the lighting on two maps. REALLY, nothing more?. Personally, I don't care for single player campaigns, and never will, until someone says to me the AI compares to Brothers In Arms or Company Of Heroes, computer OPFOR intelligence is nothing more than an equation.
I've been trawling Twitter and YouTube for the community's opinion on the game and the general consensus is positive, from what I've seen, it's WAY better than the BETA - which made me not want to buy it - and the various game types are entertaining and replay worthy. All but a minor amount of negativity - so far - is coming from people who played the BETA only - understandable - or that read the reviews and haven't played it themselves.
Even the pencil pushing grand poobah, Michael Pachter, weighed in on the conversation ten minutes after release in the States and said EA's stocks were down as a result. Seriously, this was the morning of the Seppo release. It's obviously a political move under pressure from where ever, and quite possibly the game really is crap, but what also is quite obvious is that the community - who are WAY harsher on games than any reviewer - aren't coming away with the same feeling as these people damning it.
I haven't played it yet, but I will. Like I said on Twitter, 'if DICE put shit in tea bags I'd buy it'. I'll let you guys know. I look forward to the Australian and New Zealand reaction. |
