Don't Feel Too Sorry for Midway

Written by Aaron Mitchell | Tuesday, 03 March 2009 10:00

So as we know longstanding games company Midway has almost finished imploding into itself and becoming a footnote in the history of gaming. The only things they really owned have been sold off, Vid Diesel’s game Wheelman to Ubisoft and Mortal Kombat to an as yet unnamed company (money on EA, expect two MK games a year for the next ten years).

On one hand its a shame, Midway always seemed like a nice company who loved giving their fans what they wanted. Mortal Kombat as a series was always trying to be inovative in a stale genre. But before you start penning that sympathy card with a stuffed bear and a ‘miss you all teddy’ message on the front, take heed of this news. Midway top brass set aside three and a half million dollars in bonuses for themselves as the company nose dives, about a million and a half of that money comes from the sale of Wheelman and Mortal Kombat. The rest comes from denying their staff the final pay out of their wages.

So hats off to you Midway executives. We hope the IRS opens the books on you some day and you all go to jail… and meet someone who looks like Goro in the shower.
