That Aussie Game Awards 2008

Written by Drew | Monday, 15 December 2008 10:00

That Aussie Game Site will hold their very first end of year awards next Sunday on our weekly podcast, That Aussie Game Cast.  We can’t wait!  In addition to our Game of the Year Award, we will also announce our winners in seven specialised categories.  All winners will be posted on the website the following week, but to hear it first you’ll need to tune in to next week’s podcast.

A winner and runner-up will be awarded for each category.  For the most prestigious Game of the Year award, five nominees will be revealed on the site this week.  A new nominee will be unveiled in alphabetical order each day beginning Monday through till Friday.  We’ve endured gruelling marathon play sessions and debated endlessly, commonly culminating in arm wrestling and choke holds (that was left handed Mick!).

Awards will be announced for the following categories:

Game of the Year Best Graphics
Best Sound
Best Multiplayer
Best Co-op
Best Character
Most Original Game
Best Independent Game

You may ask why we’ve chosen to award Best Multiplayer & Co-op yet fail to recognise Best Singleplayer.  This choice sparked the most debate amongst us, but ultimately it was decided that a strong singleplayer experience is intrinsic to any potential Game of the Year winner and would result in a potential ‘doubling up’ of those awards.

So be sure to tune in next Sunday night for a very special episode of That Aussie Game Cast where we’ll eschew the regular format for our inaugural Awards Show.  Also don’t forget to check back to the site each day this week for our That Aussie Game of the Year Nominees.
