San Diego Comic Con is currently happening (and I'm here in Australia DAMN IT!) and Bungie were in attendance on Friday dropping some pretty spectacular news about Firefight, a new Halo themed Xbox and a little piece of magic called Forge World.
Words don't do justice to how amazing Forge World looks. So watch the video below to get a clearer idea how amazing it looks.
Forge in Halo 3 has been used to create some pretty spectacular online experiences. I've played race games, puzzle games, a giant game of Jenga played by launching pieces of debris shot through man cannon's at the giant Jenga tower. Halo: Reach has Forge World which looks like a major upgrade to the experience.
That is pretty damn cool right there. Bungie certainly know how to value add to their games. Reach is shaping up to be a sequel and superior game to Halo 3 in every way.
Speaking of value adding we all ready knew Firefight was returning from ODST and that Reach's Firefight will include that crucial but previously lacking element matchmaking. But Comic Con also played host to a knew gametype called Versus which allows one team to play as the Elites and one team to play as the Spartans in a Firefight situation. So how does this work? Well basically you choose how much Firefight you're going to play, a round, a wave, what have you, then when that is complete the teams switch places and the team with the highest score at the end of the game is the winner. The catch is you only earn points as a Spartan and with the Elites you're running with all the other waves of Covenant. Human players will only play as Elites but the only Elites in the game will be human players, if that makes sense, the rest of the waves will be made up of all the other Covenant races or a particular combination if something has been set up.
The tactics here are pretty clear, as an Elite you're job is to both stay alive to rob them of points and deplete the Spartan's life pool by killing them. Expect a lot of sniping and a strong reliance on teamwork.
Finally a Halo specific Xbox 360 Slim was announced as well which looks pretty damn sweet. Best of all, the disc tray and power on sounds are taken from Halo sound bites. Squeeeee!
Another video below, this one an unboxing of the whole shebang. I desperately want one of these.
By the way, if you haven't made a preorder yet for the Halo: Reach Legendary Edition in Australia you are out of luck! Apparently they are sold out nation wide. So if you want one look at ebay for the horrific mark ups by shrewd scalpers (assholes really) who preordered two copies.
I freely admit that everything in this post gives me a severe constriction of the pants. But for a non fanboy it might only spark a little curiosity about the title.
